Engineering biology is an emerging interdisciplinary field in the field of life sciences, considered a new key to understanding life (knowledge of creation) and one of the disruptive technologies of the future (application of creation). It integrates the principles of life science knowledge, engineering science concepts, and multidisciplinary enabling technologies, and through rational design, modification, or re synthesis of biological systems, studies fundamental problems in life science or solves many challenges faced by human socio-economic development. It will provide new technological sources for medicine and health, agriculture and food, environment and energy.

With the forward-looking layout and strong support of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shenzhen, the synthetic biology industry is gradually forming a clustering trend in Shenzhen. In order to build a platform for high-level dialogue, exchange, cooperation and publicity in the field of synthetic biology with high standards and quality, urban linkage, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology and other institutions jointly planned to successfully hold three engineering biology (synthetic biology) innovation conferences in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and successfully hold the first China Synthetic Biology Academic Annual Conference in 2021, bringing together hundreds of guests and representatives from all walks of life, including scientific research, education, industry and capital, to share their insights.    

On April 28, 2023, the 4th Engineering Biology Industry Conference, the 2nd China Synthetic Biology Academic Annual Conference, and the 1st Asian Synthetic Biology Innovation Conference were successfully concluded.
